Current Events in South Sudan: Are you disappointed?

I share my disappointment with millions of South Sudanese from all walk of life. The country we fought for and sacrificed for so long has now been broken up into sand-like pieces and shopped into pockets by the ungrateful elite. These ungrateful where once upon a time during the civil war led us into a war that has taken a toll on our generation and has stain our traditional belief and values. South Sudan used to be a place where you can drop your wallet on the ground and no one will take it until you can find it! Now, you are robbed at daylight.

The current state of the nation have pitted traditions against traditions, brothers against brothers, tribe against tribe, social construction against each other’s and so forth. These practices are the product of the ungrateful elite who sees citizens as properties that they can use and dispose at any time they feel fit. They are our current leaders who for so long have shamed us by not standing with us (the have not) in order to achieve a national objective of self-reliance and self-rule. These rulers have taken the country backward and they are thieves…no tarmac roads, airports are in ruins, education system is worst, no credible universities, no public bathrooms amongst basic others.

Our government of South Sudan received 98% of its revenue from oil sales in 2012, according to the CIA. GDP was $10.6 billion and GNP (income based) has increased over the years. Despite such revenue and billions of dollars provided by donor nations, including the United States, our government has failed to produce results. There is only one paved road, built by USAID, and despite good land and available water, agriculture is almost entirely subsistence level compared to the rest of Africa. The U.S. State Department has issued warnings about corruption in South Sudan over the years, but it continues to fund yearly aid packages worth $1.4 billion since 2011.
